Sugianto has a keen interest in public affairs in Indonesia. As Senior Analyst, he follows and writes analyses of current public policy issues for CastleAsia’s reports. He has over a decade of experience in journalism, working as an English-language correspondent for various Jakarta-based foreign media outlets and over a decade more in civic activism, working on training university-level youths in individual freedom ideas, democracy, and a free-market economy. Before joining CastleAsia in early 2019, he was a policy researcher for a few Indonesian policy think tanks delving into alcohol prohibition, youth and public health, low-cost public schools, and the social security system. Sugianto holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Gadjah Mada University, a Master’s Degree in Governance and Development from the Institute of Development Studies (University of Sussex), and a four-year Doctoral Research Training (lapsed) in civic education and curriculum studies at the University of Sydney.
