Aan has a broad interest in current affairs and public policy in Indonesia and has more than two decades of professional experience as a journalist working with several Jakarta-based national and foreign media outlets as well as a long stint as a civic activist and public policy analyst and advocacy with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and think tanks. Aan studied at Gadjah Mada University (Yogyakarta), the Institute of Development Studies (University of Sussex) and the University of Sydney.
An experienced professional in all aspects of business, Ian is a regional leader in risk management, strategic advisory and political risk analysis. Ian has specialized in Indonesia, Southeast Asia and the broader APAC region for more than thirty years with ten years in a business advisory role before joining Hill & Associates. There, he spent sixteen years in risk analysis, intelligence and security risk consulting as Director for Southeast Asia, leading operations in Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia. A published author in Indonesia, Ian has a master’s degree in International Studies and a bachelor’s in the Humanities. He has specialized in community development, conflict studies, political Islam and extremism, governance and compliance.
